The Porsche “Legend” spec spot was created as an experiment in remote collaboration between Monovich (Stephen Fitzgerald) and The Brigade. Located at opposite ends of the United States (Washington and New York states), both parties were connected only by broadband lines and a common interest in creating a spot with beautiful visuals with a strong message that was faithful to the Porsche brand.

None of the artists involved at any level ever met face to face. When we needed an additional skillset to round out the piece, we pulled out our address books or web browsers and shot emails, IMs, or phone calls to Oregon, Connecticut, California, Hong Kong, and Poland. In the end the experiment worked out very well, and we are happy with the result both creatively and technically. Although it is not absolutely “perfect”, we are proud of what we achieved. With the next round of collaboration we will take what we learned on this spot and push ourselves to a higher standard yet.

All of the shots were done with Lightwave 9, and Comped in After Effects CS3.

p.s. there seems to be a bit of confusion regarding the “Like No Other” slogan, which apparently is used by Sony. For the purposes of this spot, it was actually lifted from a genuine Porsche advert, but for the life of us we cannot find it again to link to it. Que sera, sera.

    Hi Stephen,

    I saw this spot on Vimeo through a link from a Porsche owner message board and was really impressed. I noticed that there was some dispute/discussion about the use of the tag line “Like no other” at the end of the spot. As a Porsche owner and enthusiast I do not recall seeing the use of this tag line by Porsche (although it is very possible I have missed it). I would however make a suggestion that you look at changing the tag line to “Porsche. There is no substitute” which is one of, if not the, most recognized trademarks and tag lines of Porsche.

    Just my $0.02 and congratulations on creating such an impressive spot that was not only true to the brand but I feel would radiate through the current Porsche owner community and future owners alike..

    What if any feedback have you had from Porsche on this spot?
